Mount Fuji, the majestic 3,776-meter-tall active volcano, has attracted the attention of travelers for hundreds of years. And still is one of Japan’s most popular tourist attractions. But where can you find the best Instagrammable spots of Mount Fuji in Japan?
When you go to Mount Fuji, make sure to check the weather forecast, especially if you are only going for just a day or two. Go as early as possible so that the chance of clear weather is greatest. Mount Fuji is (really!) only visible in clear weather. Trust us, we discovered that was the truth by the third day. We got lucky we had two clear days! You can read more about the best time to visit Mount Fuji here.
We highly recommend booking at least one night at Mount Fuji to view everything without having to rush your visit, the entire area is quite big. And you don't want to miss the sunset with a view of Mount Fuji! Especially not a sunset view on Mount Fuji from an onsen (Japanese style bathhouse).
Pro-tip; staying at the Mifujien Hotel is a must. They have a traditional ryokan-style room with traditional breakfast. And there is an onsen with a view of the volcano.

To get to Fujiyoshida City, hop on the train from Kawaguchiko to Mount Fuji Station. Fujiyoshida City ask for directions to its Instagram hotspot of Mount Fuji. The locals in the area are very aware of this hotspot for Instagram-photo's. They directed us with a printed map and told us more information about the city and a nearby shrine. When you arrive at the spot you will see the signs of it being a photo-worthy spot. According to us, this is by far the number one of the Instagrammable spots around Mount Fuji. The locals love the attention of their lovely little city, but be careful of the traffic and do not take pictures in the middle of the street when it's busy. Be safe and respectful!
One of the most famous views of the volcano is from the Chureito Pagoda. To get to the Chureito Pagoda, hop on the train from Lake Kawaguchi station to Shimo-Yoshida Station, from where you’ll walk up 400 steps to reach the Pagoda. The view is just amazing!
Go early so you can avoid the waiting cue to take pictures of this incredible vista! There's no entrance fee.
