We have been scammed three times in our travels, by even a couple of the most common scams in the world. Once in New York (street games with cups) and twice in Istanbul (the shoe shiner and the expensive taxi driver). It helped us learn that we are just oblivious tourists who underestimate nasty human hyena's!
It really hurts to see people trying to scam you out of your money. You lose trust in humanity and that is a sad thing. It's a nasty aspect while traveling, but we just have to live with this fact, and especially be better prepared! While it is impossible to know when you will be scammed, it is important to know what kind of travel scams exist!
