Enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, tortas, empanadas, spicy salsas, mezcal, tequila,… oh my lord, Mexico has one of the yummiest kitchens in the world. And on the tropical island of Holbox, you can fill up!
We've found so many great spots to eat on Holbox, that we had to make a top 7 of our favorite places to eat (and drink!). There must have been 50 times that we said ‘muy rico‘ to the waiters!
Painapol Holbox
For the very best, most fresh, the hippest, and the tastiest breakfast and lunch, you have to go to Painapol. In just 10 days, we went 4 times! And we are not the only ones who are so enthusiastic, there is almost always a short queue of about 15 minutes. But definitely worth the wait! They are open from 8 AM to 2 PM.
It might be a little bit pricier than the average Mexican breakfast spot, but it's worth every peso. Be sure to try the sandwiches, the bowls, and the juices. And the rest of the (primarily vegan) menu, haha!
The friendly staff is also a big plus. Special greetings to Miguel!
Arte Sano
The wooden seats may be a bit uncomfortable, but they serve such good healthy vegan food. And it all looks so pretty too. Be sure to sit in the atmospheric little garden where there are better seats. In the garden, we saw several small salamanders and we were lucky and even saw a hummingbird!
And a big plus; they have excellent WIFI to get some emails done (and maybe even download some Netflix episodes 😉 )
Roots
Who doesn't love a good pizza? Well, you, me, and everybody. And if you want a quality pizza, then Roots is a must. They have wood-fired pizza, and they serve it with three little sauces (the black salsa mix is heavenly!). We ordered the 5 kinds of cheese pizza with extra salami and covered it with this special little black sauce. It was a bit pricier to eat here, but man… that was one of the yummiest pizzas of our lifetimes!
Pro-tip: They have lobster pizza here, and it's supposed to be godlike-delicious. It will cost you though (600 MX pesos / 25 bucks).

LUUMA
If you're looking for a trendy, cool, and a bit up class bar to get some delicious cocktails, then LUUMA is the place to go. Expensive, yes, but you'll also see some beautiful people and enjoy a couple of nice drinks before you go out with your (new) friends or your lover.

Xolo
This cute cozy little restaurant has some of the tastiest tacos you'll ever taste. And it's very affordable! We have no recommendations but just everything on the menu. So just try out a hand full of different taco's and enjoy the full belly 😉
Capitan Capitan
Beachclub Capitan Capitan is perfect to get some (expensive) drinks and snacks, while you chill like a boss on the beach all day. They have some great seats and hammocks as well. And the tacos there may be expensive, but they were very tasty!
Foodiemarket Holbox
We are saving the best for last in our ‘top 7 best places to eat on Holbox' because the Foodiemarket was our personal favorite. You can sit down here and enjoy a couple of different little in-shop restaurants. There are all kinds of drinks to order, like cocktails, mezcal, beers, and juices. You can get some typical American cuisine (hotdogs, burgers, pizza), but also some delicious tacos, and… AND… the biggest and tastiest sushi plates you'll ever get served.
For just a couple of bucks, you will get an 8-roll served. And it tastes really good. Be sure to take some friends to this place and overeat in the Foodiemarket!
