We went all over the region to test out the best warungs in Canggu, and these are our favorites you should try as well!
If you´re going out for a long beach walk on the beaches of Perenan, be sure to end your tour with a delicious Indonesian dish at MyWarung. This warung is located right in front of the infamous statue of Perenan Beach (you know, the one with the fish-elephant hybrid!). MyWarung has a second floor that offers great views of the beach, the statue, and the sunset. Expensive though, compared to a simple street warung.
Must try: their big ass nasi campur.
This lovely restaurant is easily our favorite warung for high-quality local Indonesian food. This place might be pricier than a very local warung, and you´ll mostly see westerns eat here, but you get real quality and atmosphere in return. The whole ambiance is very appealing as well: the interior design is spot on, and you are seated next to a Balinese temple. Even their Instagram is on point. Ulekan is a must-visit if you want to try excellent Indonesian dishes.
Must try: We loved the Nasi Campur Royal, and the vegetarian aubergine rendang, which was very tasty!
When you enter Canggu via the Padang Lingjong road, you´ll see beautiful ricefields on your left and right. But be aware of not missing one of the best warungs in Bali, and that is the Vietnamese warung called XichLo. The food is very tasty, but the main attraction is the viewpoint on the rice terraces and the lush green landscape. What a view!
Must try: We forgot the name, but it was some delicious sweet dessert with rice or porridge.
This hip-looking warung is a sister project of the famous KYND cafe, which translates into immediate quality vegan food and colorful and creative interiors. Give Cafe is a modern western adaption of the Indonesian warung, with all vegetarian dishes that look colorful and very Instagrammable. It´s not our favorite warung, but I would recommend going to Give Cafe once or twice. You´ll love the look of this cool hip warung and the food is pretty fine as well, but there are better options!
Must try: their ginger-lime drink.
We also appreciated the kind souls and the pretty good food at this roadside warung. The ladies who work here are so cute and nice! La Pan Am serves many dishes from all sorts of international kitchens, but also many from the Indonesian kitchen. Our villa was close to La Pan Am, so we would eat here quite often. And we liked every meal we had here!
Must try: Their pad thai was delicious!
Sidenote 1: These warungs are in Canggu, Perenan, and Berewa. All within 5-10 minutes from the center of Canggu.
Sidenote 2: there are many really local places, but they look quite weathered. And weathered is a nice word because some of these places have food that looks like it was good a week ago. We didn´t want to risk the infamous ´Bali-Belly´, so we skipped those really local places, and chose more restaurant-style warungs.
You could argue that we didn´t test out the real local warungs that way, but man… these often dark hole in the wall-shops really didn´t look inviting…
Wow, this is by far the cutest warung in town. The interior and exterior are totally Balinese style, which is so lovely to look at, and to dine in! It´s a very romantic cute place with many details to gaze at. Try to be in this open restaurant before sunset because the mosquitos are coming out after dark.
This restaurant looks quite expensive, but it definitely isn´t!
Must try: Try out many Indonesian dishes here, it´s very affordable at Casa Tua.
Enjoy your meals at these lovely warungs in Canggu, Bali! 🙂
