Hotel Review: Cachito de Cielo in Tulum, Mexico (Luxury Jungle Lodge)

Welcome to the jungle! It´s the perfect description for this amazing luxury jungle lodge. This stylishly designed compound can be found just 15 minutes from the city center of Pueblo Tulum, but it´s still in the middle of the jungle. Let us show you this beautiful getaway from the chaotic streets of Mexico.

Cachito de Cielo translates as ´a little slice of heaven´ and that is just perfect. And true! We´ll tell you all about our 3-night stay in this unique retreat in the middle of the Mexican jungle.

A wild ride towards heaven

This amazingly designed property lies about a 10-minute ride from the main Tulum-Coba road, but it´s not a road like you and I would think of. It´s a bumpy sandy ride (an actual sand road) towards the property, filled with holes and big bumps. A bigger Rental car (4X4) is advised, although we made it through with our average rental car. We did have some sweat on our foreheads, to be honest 😉

Upon arrival, we gaze at the majestic gate that already makes you wonder what magic lies beyond it. We immediately had a good feeling about this place!

A warm welcome from some really good people

The owners, wow, these people have such kind souls. Their story is as amazing as their hospitality. This family (grandmother, daughter, husband, and three kids) truly welcomed us with open arms and they loved telling all about their story of how they started this big project. We listened with full attention while getting served some coffee and cake. I won´t spoil you the full story about these lovely people, but I can tell you that you will be in awe of how Cachito de Cielo came together. You will have to ask them yourselves!

Little teaser; there was some major heartbreak in this family and some very special define intervention to make this unique place happen. You´ll understand why they call it Cachito de Cielo / A little slice of Heaven.

Special greetings to Giselle, Tania, Alberto, and their sweet kids!

We didn´t leave

This luxury jungle lodge consistent of multiple villas, a big 8 person dorm, the villa where the family lives, a beautiful pool area with hammocks, a big temple-like construction for meetings and yoga and so much more. We usually when we book a hotel or Airbnb, leave the place to go out to check out hotspots or eat out. In Cachito de Cielo, we stayed in! That has never happened before and that just shows you how comfortable and nice it was for us.

We stacked our big refrigerator with water and some healthy food, and just really stayed in. We even ordered pizzas and pasta (and yes, the delivery driver had to ride that crazy road up and down on his scooter towards Cachito de Cielo!).

Beware of the jungle animals

The owner told us with big enthusiastic eyes that we could encounter all kinds of beautiful birds, foxes, big black jaguars at nighttime, bats, monkeys, scorpions, spiders, snakes, flies, and mosquitos… That sounds scary and dramatic, but we didn´t see any of these in our weekend stay. But it´s a possibility according to the owners who have seen a jaguar casually passing by in the night. But they let their kids walk barefoot out there, so it´s not that bad as your imagination will take you. We only saw beautiful birds and even a rare blue butterfly!

But just to be sure, wear some good shoes when walking down this property. Especially at nighttime. And don´t forget to spray on some repellent for the mosquitos and stingy flies. We hardly have encountered even flies or mosquitoes, so don´t let this discourage you to take on this jungle adventure!

If you are up for some real adventure, host Alberto would gladly take you along.

The villas are so dreamy

We´ve been traveling through Mexico for multiple weeks and have encountered some really crazy hotels and Airbnbs. Noisy, smelly, weird, incomplete, and just not up to par. So it was such a nice change that we stayed in a place that is just so well designed (and not noisy, and not smelly, and had everything you needed for a longer stay). They really had a clear vision of what is supposed to be, and that is: to heal the soul!

The rooms are spacious and cool, the kitchen is fully supplied, the shower is nice and hot, and we´ve had a big bed to really get some good rest. I can tell you that it´s an amazing experience to sleep with sounds of all kinds of birds and crickets. At first, it was kinda weird to sleep in the jungle, but the second night… we slept like babies!

But wait, there´s more!

Not only are the villas just perfect, but the whole area is also just hard to believe that it´s actually real. You´ll walk around amazed at what you´re seeing here. The pool area is just picture-perfect, and the places where you can come together with like-minded people feel like you´re in a far-away retreat in Mongolia or Nepal. But Cachito de Cielo is not in Mongolia or Nepal, it´s in Tulum!

The cute little details are also such a treat. There are signs everywhere with cool insightful quotes, there are Tibetan flags, Buddha statues and so much more. We truly loved the level of detail and recommend staying at least 3 to 14 nights. Thank us later!

Cachito de Cielo is the perfect retreat for you if you are in for some healing, for some relaxation, for a couple of excellent yoga classes, for some deep contemplation of the soul, and for maybe even a life-changing insight. Cachito de Cielo will change you, for the good!
