Where to stay when you are on the Island of the Gods? These are our personal practical tips to find the most gorgeous accommodation in Bali for the best prices available.
The price and especially availability of the most popular accommodations depends very much on the season in which you plan to go to Bali. June to August is by far the busiest, also known as the high season. You will have the best weather in Bali, but the prices can be up by 30%!
November till March is the rainy season, and especially in the first months of the year, there can be daily heavy rain showers. Except for the holidays, prices will be lower than average during this period. But we recommend the shoulder season for a better chance of better weather and more reasonable prices. By this we mean the months of March to May and September to October.
If you have a trip planned, we recommend booking the accommodation well in advance, especially during the summer months so that you have the option to choose from several great villas. Bali has become very popular in recent years, so don't underestimate how quickly the accommodations in Bali fill up.
Make a wish list in advance that your villa or hotel must meet. That makes the search much smaller by checking filters such as air conditioning, swimming pool, workplace, private or shared accommodation, child-friendly, dog-friendly, fast internet etc.
You can start your search on for example Booking.com, but various villas, hotels, and guesthouses are also offered for rent on the Facebook Marketplace (for example the Canggu Housing Community). Most of the best and most unique villas can be found on Airbnb. Don´t forget to always read the reviews, the good ones, but especially the bad ones. It gives you an idea in advance whether it is a suitable villa or whether they might have a problem with noise at night. And nobody likes that…
Okay, now you have found one or more possibly suitable villas that meet your requirements and the reviews are positive. Awesome!
Then it's time for the next step; look at the neighborhood.
This can be done online via Google Maps (Streetview), or if you are already in Bali you can go visit the villa with your scooter. Pay particular attention to which road the villa is located on and which restaurants or loud clubs you may have as direct neighbors. We do not book if the villa is located directly next to a restaurant or club, nor if it is built close to one of the main roads. We choose quiet side streets so that our good night's sleep is almost guaranteed.
Construction?!
And since Bali is so booming, many new resorts and villas are being built. Check or ask whether there are also neighbors with construction work and how much noise this causes. If you are on the road a lot during the day, this is of course not a real problem. But like many digital nomads who come to Bali, there is also work to be done and a drilling and hammering neighbor is very disturbing!
When you have an account on like Booking.com, you can become a Genious member through the points you earn on bookings. This gives you benefits in, for example, a discount, free upgrade, or a free breakfast. This is indicated at the booking. Or even if you book in time without any points, you regularly have a pretty nice discount on Booking.com.
You can also contact the property manager personally if you book through Facebook, for example. Then you can discuss the price and possibly come to a nice deal. It is also useful to know that there are different rates for renting a villa for a day, week, month, or even year. The longer you stay, the cheaper the daily rate will be. So don´t be shy to ask for a better price, especially if you are not in the high season.
Dreamvilla rented
We rented beautiful villas for a month for just 5 million IDR (that´s about 340 dollars a month). Check out our Canggu Instagram Stories to see how that looked like and what we got for that price. Shocking, right?!
We selected some of the best villas in each popular neighborhood of Bali for you. All these suggestions are in the region, or really near to it, like a 5 til 15-minute drive on your scooter. Enjoy your stay in one of the most beautiful accommodations in Bali!
>> Reminder: The prices of accommodations strongly depend on the season in which you want to stay and how far in advance you book. The suggested hotels are popular, so it's smart to book as early as possible. We link to Booking.com because you can usually cancel free of charge up to 24 hours in advance (always read the conditions before booking). This gives you complete freedom to change your plans.
