The Kvernufoss waterfall: a hidden gem in Iceland

Iceland is known for its beautiful waterfalls and they have a lot of them! From extremely large waterfalls to many little ones. If you see a sign somewhere with a name ending with ´Foss´ (= Icelandic for waterfall), then you are almost certain that there is a beautiful waterfall.

Iceland has some famous waterfalls and therefore often very busy. The Kvernufoss waterfall in Iceland is indicated nowhere and therefore unknown and pretty much undiscovered. It is a relatively small but very beautiful waterfall. Kevernufoss waterfall is located in an environment that resembles a scene from the Lord of the Rings! It's a must-see!

This bucket-list location is waiting for you. But first, you´ll need a ticket up in the air!

How do you get there

From the Skogafoss waterfall, it is a 4-minute drive to go to the Kvernufoss waterfall in Iceland. Park far to the right on the grounds of the Skogar Museum. Then you walk around the right buildings (the gray/green garages in de picture below). You will find no signs towards the waterfall and it seems like private property, but you are allowed to go there. You walk on the path/grass until you come to a staircase over the fence (the red star on the Google Maps picture below) on your right and you step over it. As you can see in the Google Maps image, you first walk straight over the fence until you reach the waterfront, then keep left and you follow the path and the river into the mighty nature of Iceland!

As soon as you cross the hill you can already see the waterfall. What a beauty!
