The currency in France is the Euro (Eur). At hotels and larger restaurants you can pay by credit card and in the cities, you will find enough ATMs or banks. For the markets and smaller restaurants and shops, it is useful to have cash with you. A tip of 10-15% is included at the price in restaurants, but you can give a tip of 5-10% if they provided well service.
Safety
Some terrorist attacks have taken place in France since 2015. Fortunately, this is still rare and shouldn't stop you from visiting this romantic city. Since then you see more police on the street and the government is doing everything it can to prevent a recurrence.
In 2016, the French government launched a handy app called SAIP (Système d'Alerte en d'Information des Populations). You can use your residence and you will automatically receive a notification if there is an attack in your area, but also in case of other calamities such as problems with a nuclear power plant and other matters. You will then immediately see what you should or should not do.
You can download the SAIP for an iPhone or Android.
Also, be very alert for pickpockets. Just like in all other major cities, warnings are issued for this in Paris. Fortunately, we have never had to deal with this, but that is also because we are alert to this. Do not bring any valuables with you and if you are taking them, put them in the bottom of your bag and never leave your bag unattended or out of sight. Do not put your phone or wallet in your back pocket. And watch your stuff in big crowds.
Beware of scams such as ” ball ball” and never buy a metro ticket from someone else, these are only for sale and valid from a ticket machine!
Culture & Religion
The population is approximately 83-88% Roman Catholic, which can be seen in the beautiful cathedrals in the city. Definitely worth visiting some. Also, the French love their food and take their time for it. They are food lovers! You will find restaurants or cafes everywhere. French cuisine is one of the most famous in the world. Take your time and treat yourself to delicious pastries and banquets.
Paris insider tips you need to know
>> Paris is very big and the sights are sometimes quite far apart. Paris has an excellent metro system and there are also electric scooters from Lime and WIND, among others. Because you already walk so much in a day, we recommend that you use one of these rides.
>> Paris is large, busy, and attracts many tourists every year. This can cause traffic to be a bit chaotic and rougher than you are used to at home. Always obey the traffic rules and don't just cross the road!
>> Paris is a beautiful and authentic city, but don't forget the surrounding must-see attractions such as the Palace of Versailles. Or if you have more time you can also visit the rest of France, which is also very wonderful!
