When we planned our world trip, we also told of our big plans to our connection at Osprey. They immediately went out their way and helped us out by sending out their brand-new Osprey Ozone Duplex 65 Travel Pack. Because we already had a cool backpack, we thought we might not take it with us on the big one. Boy, were we wrong about that!
Upon arrival, our first impression was very good. We immediately loved the cool black look and were impressed by the sturdy build. The first thing you see is that you have two separate backpacks build into one. The second bag, the turtle-like extra shell you can fit on the first backpack, is a very handy spacious extra. You can strap this second bad boy with ease when you really have to travel further (like change hotels, getting on long flights etc.). The second backpack can be disconnected within seconds. It's great when you arrive at your hotel and can drop the second one with ease and switch over to just using the first backpack. You can store a total of 65 liters in these internal spaces.
The first backpack is the perfect daypack. You can strap bottles on both sides, adjust the straps to match your height, click on the two front straps, and get on your way. It fits perfectly on your back, making it feel like your a traveling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. And it seems they thought of it all because of every little well thought trough detail (like handlebars, small secret pockets, hip belt, padded shoulder straps, and a comfortable but sturdy back panel. It has so many slick well-hidden compartments that after a couple of days we still were discovering more smart spaces.
This just might be the ultimate backpack for seasoned travelers!
Just wow. After using this backpack a couple of weeks in Israel and Japan, we were so in love with how functional and good this backpack really is. The daypack is by far our most used backpack when we went out to freebird around the cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Fuji, and Tokyo. The upper compartment is easily accessible (but not theft friendly, so keep your important stuff in the compartment that is better hidden in this pack!). It's also very smartly designed. You can store all sorts of travel-related stuff you need while walking through a city, park, beach, museum, or forest (like deodorant, hand sanitizer, gum, a pen, and a snack).
When you open the bigger compartments, you'll find more intelligent designs to store your laptop, precious cargo (passport, money etc.) and all of the bigger items (like sweaters, jackets, things you bought along the way). The daypack is a very lightweight and comfortable pack, so you do not have to worry a bit that this backpack will be annoying. It's a perfect companion, even on long days while walking 10-20k steps.
Are there any downsides to this backpack? Well, not really. It's really that good. Maybe it would have been even better if it had Wi-Fi and free sushi, but that seems a bit far fetched right? 😉
Our final verdict: 9
The designers and manufacturers at Osprey truly deserve a standing ovation. The intelligent design, the cool look, and especially the practical application of this bag is just next level stuff. This bag is going to go around the world with us for many years to come. And if we ever lose it or it gets broken, we will buy ourselves a new one right away!
