The 10 best places for breakfast and lunch in Canggu

Sensorium

Stop with what you´re going and get your ass as quickly as possible to Sensorium. Sweet baby Buda, this is the place to go. Owner and chef Will used to work in Melbourne for many years and has decided to bring his Australian dishes to Bali for a very nice Aussie-Asian fusion.

It´s hard to believe this Michelin-star-looking food has the price of an average restaurant in Canggu. He could ask for double the price and I would gladly pay for it. We tried almost half of the menu (yes, we went that often, about 7 times in a month haha!), and all of the dishes were taste bombs.

Shoutout to the ladies in the kitchen for welcoming us every time with great enthusiasm!

Must try: the legendary taste bomb that is the Korean Scrambled Eggs (!)

Copenhagen

The Danish know what´s a good breakfast! At this cute roadside cafe, you can mix and match what you want. You get a sheet of paper with a couple of categories on them, like which bread, which protein, and which desert.

You will fill right up after eating at Copenhagen. There is something about this food that keeps you full for many hours.

They even open at 6.30 am!

Must try: the chia porridge and the cinnamon roll.

Buongiorno

Buongiorno” is the little sister of award-winning restaurant Sa’Mesa di Nonna and translates into “Good Morning” in Italian. And that is precisely what they are. A collective of young & hungry foreigners who teamed up with the most talented local baker and pastry chefs to create a tiny little shop that delivers “good mornings” filled with love.

All their products are homemade in their production site and freshly delivered every morning. When you sleep, they bake, and they open at 6 AM, EVERY DAY.

Must Try: Their Salami Panini is hands down the best sandwich in Bali. You'll love it!

Quince

FANTASTIC. That was our response to every meal we enjoyed at Quince in Berewa. This small but stylish place is a gem. You might not sit comfortably, but the dishes are legendary in taste and look. Mmmmh!

Must try: the quinoa porridge, the smoothie with dates, and the spinach fritters. They all sound weird, but you will send me a personal email about how great these dishes were!

Crate Cafe

The very popular Crate Cafe is a well-known hotspot for the cool kids to get their quite affordable breakfast and/or lunch. The open space is also suited for relaxing, reading a book, listening to a podcast, staring at the rice fields, staring at your phone, and working on your laptop.

Extra plus: Crate Cafe opens at 6am, so the early birds can get their brekkie and/or coffee in as early as they want.

Must try: their famous avocado toast!

Beach Garden

Just wow, what a lovely place (Balinese with a modern twist), and their organic menu options are sooooo good. This wonderful open restaurant crosses of all the healthy boxes, and that is their mission as well. They even buy every product from Bali locals. Loved sitting here.

And by the way, the owner is the same guy who walks on Berewa Beach with a pack of actual wolves!

Must try: Wanna get healthy? Just eat here every day and you´ll transform into a new you.

One of the coolest-looking cafes in town also has one of the nicest menus. From delicious sweet pancakes to healthy green bowls and everything in between, the Common Cafe is one of our favorite cafes to crash for a tasty lunch.

Insider tip; check out their 2-1 deals on the weekends that will save you tons of money and fill you and your date´s belly up with good food!

Must try: The Green Bowl. No spoilers, go for it! Your body and taste pallets will thank me later.

Secret Spot

One of the favorite spots in Canggu for everybody who has ever been around the neighborhood. We love their breakfast and lunch menu, which has so many healthy, sweet, and yummy options.

p.s.: their dinner options disappointed us big time. The teriyaki noodles and Ring of Fire pizza were bland. We hardly were let down in Canggu, but Secret Spot´s dinner options got it done.

Must try: the Superfoods Oatmeal, what a taste bomb!

We shared so many Stories on Instagram of our adventures in Canggu. Must-visit beach clubs, cafes, temples, coworking spaces and so much more. Check it out free birds!

Bali Buda

Also, another one of our favorites we visited quite often. This place has soooo many healthy nutritious options, it´s just mind-blowing. The health store downstairs is a gem for health nuts, and the restaurant upstairs is a must-visit: so many healthy dishes! And quite affordable as well!

Must try: All of their salads are tremendous,  and their golden latte with turmeric is a cannonball of health.

Extra recommendations we also liked very much:

This list hurts my soul because have to be so strict on the selection. These recommendations below are also from places we adore.

  • Milk Madu (bit noisy and crowded, but pretty good brekkie and lunch!)
  • Monsieur Spoon (French lunches and pastries for the sweet tooth amongst us, yum!)
  • Coach Cafe (lovely interior, excellent menu with sweet, filling, and healty options)
  • Coffee Cartel Berewa (this lovely pink and white decorated place has one of the best menus in Bali for foodies, athletes, and health nuts. There are so many healthy and tasty options to chose from, that it created some serious food-FOMO. Try the Detox smoothie and their croissant)

What about dinner?!

We mostly ate so good and so filling in the morning and in the afternoon, that we hardly ate dinner later at night. We mostly skipped dinners at restaurants, but we do have some rrrrrreally good recommendations of the places we did visit! Our last recommendation of this list is a dinner place which we really adored and visited quite often.

La Baracca Canggu

The best Italian place in Bali. By far. And it´s not only the crazy tasty delicious pasta and pizzas, but it´s also how sweet the staff is (the Italian hostess is a gem) and how the whole place looks. The second floor is soooo romantic. It´s the best restaurant in town for a dinner date!

We get serious FOMO at this place because we want to try all the pasta and all the desserts, …and all the pizzas. They have so many and every dish tastes so authentic! Fun fact to know you´re in good hands here, La Baracca was founded by 3 Italian guys from Rome!

Must try: the gnoggi e fichi, and the limoncello shots.

Extra dinner recommendations we also liked very much:

  • Enso (very typical Japanese-style restaurant, and pretty good food for a very affordable price!)
  • Shady Shack (lovely decor, big menu, and many vegan options)
  • Oh My Thai (spicy thai food, get your fix here!)
  • DuaTiga (huge Thai/Vietnamese menu, pretty good and cheap)
  • Ji (fascinating traditional decor in this Japanese restaurant, cool rooftop, and pretty decent sushi. Horrible seats, but the view of the ocean is worth it)
  • Moana (mainly a cute looking place for a date, the food was just okay)
  • Milu by Nook (this is the nicest Balinese restaurant in town. These views, interior, and the huge menu are unbelievable!)

What about the warungs?!

And before you go, you might ask: ´what about the warungs?!´. The local Indonesian restaurants deserve credit on their own, so we made a list of the 6 best warungs in Canggu, Bali. You can´t go to this island without trying a couple of warungs. You will love the local food, trust me!

We did NOT like

There were a couple of places that didn´t vibe with us. Bad treatment was the main reason for us to list The Bench Sportsbar as a place we would not recommend going to, and Mason had a strange soulless vibe about it. And we walked out of Nalu Bowls upon sight, because the parking valet was a d*ckfaced d*ckhead. Excuse my French.

Conclusion: you are in Foodie Heaven

Canggu is foodie heaven… that´s for sure! You will find the very best breakfast and lunch options in the world here in Canggu. You can eat as healthy and as bad as you would like here. You will leave this island with severe foodie-FOMO. You´ll probably need a full year to try all the places and all their yummy options to have tasted it all. And we might do that because it´s all so damn delicious! 😛

Although we ate quite a lot, we still stayed in decent shape. Wanna know how we do it? Check out our Lifestyle Resources page!
