The best time to visit Paris – An overview per season

The best time to visit Paris is between late March and June or September and November – these months are right before or directly after the summertime high tourist season.

But every season has its own charm to discover Paris. Read below per season its own character and make up your own mind. Because no matter what time of year you plan to visit Paris, the city always has plenty to see and to enjoy.

Spring

Paris is wonderful to visit in spring from March till May. In early March, the temperature will be around 54°F/12°C and therefore a little bit chilly. But in April the temperatures are starting to rise, and it will regularly be around 68°F/20°C. The flowers are starting to bloom and the city comes alive again after many cold winter months.

You can still expect the nights to be chilly and occasionally you can be surprised by a light rain shower. Therefore don't forget your raincoat against the cold or the rain. But overall spring is the best season for pleasant weather while exploring the city and its beautiful parks.

Summer

The summer months are June till August. Temperatures range from 60°F/16°C to 95°F/35°C with a small chance of rain. During the hot summer days, it is muggy due to the crowds and exhaust fumes. It is highly recommended to cool down in the lee of the many different parks. The parks and cafes are brimming with relaxing Parisians basking in the sun on these hot summer days.

But remember there is also a chance that you will have to deal with colder weather and rain during your visit to Paris. So always bring your umbrella and wear multiple layers!

In general, the summer is busier and therefore pretty expensive to stay in Paris. You’ll need to be prepared to wait in long lines for popular attractions, and bumping elbows with the hordes of tourists in congested areas of town.

Autumn

Autumn from September till December is the best season for lower hotel rates. And you’ll see more locals and fewer tourists. The fewer crowds and relatively mild weather, between 54°F/12°C and 70°F/21°C, make autumn a pleasant season to visit Paris.

It is also a beautiful sight to see the coloring leaves on the trees through the city. And in recent years Paris has had a wonderful Indian Summer. But you may or may not miss out on the cold weather and don’t forget the rain in Paris, so plan to pack layers and an umbrella.

Winter

January till February is the winter. Winter is low season, you will find low rates, more locals, and fewer tourists, except mid-December until mid-January when it’s Christmas. Then it will be a lot busier in the city with both tourists and locals doing Christmas shopping and enjoying all the winter activities and the beautiful lights in the city.

In terms of weather, you have a high chance of cold and gray weather. It is around 46°F/8°C, but it can also be colder, especially during the nights. If you are lucky it is cold enough and snowfall will cover the Eiffel Tower and the city making it an even more romantic city. The days are short in daylight, but that makes it easy to see all the beautiful light decorations. This gives a fairytale and romantic atmosphere in the city.

Do not forget to bring a warm coat and gloves if you visit Paris during wintertime. But you will enjoy shorter lines and the beautiful lighting in the city!
