Sometimes, you get the desire to get out of the concrete jungles we live in and go explore nature in all its glory. It was exactly this desire which brought us to discover ViewRanger. Surprisingly, depending on where you are, you might not have to go very far to find a hiking trail.
In case you don’t know what ViewRanger is, it’s an app that allows people who love hiking and biking to discover, plan, and share their adventures on the trail. We happen to love adventuring, so we had to give this one a try.

How does ViewRanger work?
How did it go? We’re glad you asked, and we can confidently say that the app deserves all the fame it has. Not only is it incredibly easy to use, but it also has a ton of convenience features that add a ton of value to it. We’ll cover a few of these features.
- Offline trail/hiking navigation: When you go off the beaten path, you might lose connection to the outside world. We loved that we could download offline hiking routes that enabled us to fully untether and go adventuring! Think Google Maps style navigation, except offline and when hiking.
- User-uploaded hiking routes: One of the best things about this app is that the routes you see have been uploaded by your fellow nature lovers. So you’ll find no shortage of excellent trails, with new ones being added all the time. The first time we used the app, it let us know that there was a gorgeous trail an hour’s drive from us!
- Augmented Reality (AR): See a mountain or a landmark and want to know its name? Point your camera at it and ViewRanger will tell you. We weren’t expecting this one to just be a gimmick and not work very well, so imagine our surprise when it surpassed our expectations.
