We visited the unique 2D Cafe in Tokyo Japan and it was as surreal as you would imagine

2d cafe

Japan itself already feels like a utopian place on earth and the capital of Tokyo is surreal because of all the unique sounds, vibrant colors, cool vibes, and alien hotspots. And the Insta-worthy 2D Cafe is definitely one of them!

Upon stepping inside the 2D cafe in Tokyo, Japan you find yourself directly in a cartoony world, but it’s an actual restaurant where you can eat and drink. We went there and had a blast!

‘Wow, it looks like you're in a cartoon!”

What is a 2D cafe?

A 2D cafe is a cafe where the whole interior of the cafe is designed as a 2D world and usually, it is all black and white. From the chairs, the logo to the wall art everything is designed in 2D. It is quite amazing how surreal it looks. And you can order different kinds of sweets and of course bubble tea.

Like you´re in a cartoon

Bubble tea or tapioca in Japanese is a very popular drink in Japan. Bubble tea has its origin in Korea, so you can find this hotspot in the Shin Ōkubo area, also known as “Tokyo’s Korean town”. This 2D cafe opened in 2019, you can sit here with your friends in this black and white 2-dimensional world or take out. The cafe is quite large and I really loved the details of the 2D drawings on the walls; the curtains, the flowers, and the furniture. We took some atmospheric pictures and we made a short video. My husband said: Wow, it looks like you're in a cartoon! And it really felt like that, a very unique and alien experience.

The menu of the 2d Cafe

The 2D Cafe in Tokyo, Japan offers a wide range of bubble teas – you can choose between pineapple, blueberry, mango, orange, and many more flavors. In addition, they also have patbingsu, Korean-style shaved ice desserts, which come in different flavors – strawberry, banana, azuki, and more. Both of us had never had bubble tea, so we opted for the bubble tea. We ordered a mango bubble tea and we loved the flavor (who doesn't love mango?!). The little weird balls on the bottom were quite strange at first hand, but we kinda start loving them after a couple of sips. The mango bubble tea was not too sweet and a little bit creamy. Yummy…

The prices are around 600〜700 yen for one bubble tea (about 5.50-6.50 USD) and around 1000 yen for the patbingsu (9-10 USD) which is an average price for bubble tea in Tokyo. The food and the drinks are all handmade and super fresh, so definitely worth it.

Overall it was a very unique experience. The drinks were very good, the staff was super friendly and the pictures were instagrammable! It´s a must-visit when in Tokyo.2D cafe2d cafe 2D cafe 2d cafe
